ANOTHER NEW FEATUREThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, (the LDS Church or the Mormons.) recently opened public access to the largest genealogy data base in the world. It is called Family Search. The LDS Church has over 2 1/2 billion names in their data bases, with several million names now in the searchable internet data base and more being added as time and resources permit. Many of these names are linked to other family members making it easier to connect families together. Please use your own resources to verify the information you receive. The information contained in the data base was submitted by individual church members and is only as accurate as the submitter. There are avenues to correct inaccurate information. Please use this resource. It is the best and largest in the world. For more information regarding the site. There is also a beta version of the Family History Library Catalog, a complete listing of all the millions of records in the Family History Library, including; books, microfilm and microfiche. These are the records which have been filmed or collected from all over the world over the past 150 years by the LDS Church. To give you a sample of what is available, a search for "wolverhampton" brought up the following results: Place:
Microfilm and microfiche can be sent to a local Family History Library in your area for your own personal perusal. It is available to you, whether you are a member of the LDS Church or not. The local Family History Centers are staffed with volunteers who are eager to help you in your search for your ancestors. Check out the list of local Family History Centers to find the one nearest you. |
